Dental extraction is simply the removal of a tooth from the oral cavity. Reasons for the extraction of a tooth can include decay, impacted wisdom teeth, cosmetic purposes and tooth complications such as infection, gum disease and tooth fractures. The extraction of a tooth is a fairly simple and quick procedure although wisdom teeth can be more difficult to remove and as a consequence; more time consuming.
Extractions are generally a safe procedure requiring only local anaesthetic. After a tooth has been pulled blood will usually clot in the socket where the tooth was located. The socket area will most often heal within approximately one week’s time and the gum tissue filling the socket within a month or two.
