Invisalign® aligners are smooth and more comfortable to wear than braces (that can cause gum and mouth irritation). Invisalign® aligners are also removable so, if you choose, you are able to remove them during special occasions. It goes without saying that because they're clear and nearly invisible, most people won’t even realize you are going through treatment when you are wearing them. Invisalign® also requires fewer doctor visits than braces so there is less disruption to your busy schedule.
Conventional braces can cause some of the following symptoms: pain, discomfort, mouth sores, tooth decay (difficult to brush and floss), plaque buildup, tooth discolouration, tooth/bracket breakage and mouth sores. It is also very difficult to enjoy certain types of food including: popcorn, chips, hard-crusted bread, nuts, some candies, etc.
Besides a more appealing smile straightening teeth can greatly improve overall dental health. Invisalign® aligners allow for better oral health care as it is easy to brush and floss to better prevent tooth decay and gum disease caused by bacteria. Correctly aligned teeth can, in many cases, eliminate orthodontic issues from an improper bite such as; speech and chewing difficulties, jaw problems and excessive wear on tooth enamel.
Teeth that are overcrowded or too widely spaced can cause red and swollen gums. Invisalign® aligners are clear and comfortable, gradually moving teeth into their proper alignment allowing the gums to fit more securely around the teeth providing the best protection against potential periodontal problems.
Dr. Rogers will determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign®. Once evaluated and approved for treatment Dr. Rogers will take x-rays and impressions of your teeth to create a digital 3-D image. A treatment plan will be discussed and he’ll show you a virtual representation of how your teeth will move in each stage of treatment.
A series of custom-made, clear aligners are then created for you. Wearing aligners will help to gradually and gently shift your teeth into their proper alignment.
Wear your Invisalign® aligners throughout the day and remove them when you eat or when brushing and flossing.
Approximately every two weeks you’ll move to the next stage of treatment receiving a new set of aligners. Your smile will improve throughout each stage of treatment as your teeth move into their desired position. For best results aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day throughout the treatment. Since the aligners are so comfortable, you should be able to wear them for the recommended hours everyday without much effort.
Each case is unique, however the approximate time for treatment with adults is one year while the length of treatment for teenagers is similar to braces.
